Dr. Joseph King
Dr. Joseph King, MD, has more than 15 years of clinical experience performing laser vision correction. He has performed more than 100,000 laser vision correction procedures, possibly more refractive procedures than any other refractive surgeon in the Pacific Northwest or Western Canada.
Dr. Joe King graduated from the University of British Columbia School of Medicine in Vancouver, Canada. Joe King, MD, completed his postgraduate medical and surgical internship in Victoria, British Columbia. A dual U.S. and Canadian citizen, Dr. King’s Ophthalmology specialty training was performed at Case Western Reserve University, St. Luke’s Medical Center, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as Chief Resident. Following completion of his Ophthalmology residency, Dr. King completed an additional year of training in ophthalmology, which included specialized training in laser vision correction at the University of South Florida Eye Institute.
Based on his experience of performing over 100,000 laser vision correction procedures, Dr. Joe King is regarded as one of the most experienced laser eye surgeons in North America. Dr. King has served as Medical Director of leading laser refractive surgery centers in Canada, California and Washington state. He is a founder of King LASIK. Dr. King was the first surgeon in the world to perform LASIK with two new technologies while serving as a clinical investigator for research studies.
A leader in the field of laser vision correction, Dr. Joe King was the first surgeon in Western North America to use the Bausch and Lomb Z-100 laser. Joe King, MD, was the first surgeon in the Northwestern U.S. and Canada to use the Bausch and Lomb Zyoptix XP microkeratome and he performed the first surgery using Zyoptix-TS in Western North America. He is certified and has performed surgery on most leading laser systems including Bausch and Lomb, VISX, Alcon LadarVision, NIdek, and Intralase. Dr. Joe King has trained many other LASIK surgeons and has performed laser vision correction for many other physicians and their families.
Dr. King’s prior work at corporate investor-owned centres helped create the foundation for Dr. King to open his own physician-owned and operated boutique private practice, King LASIK. At King LASIK, he specializes in the care of patients seeking premium laser vision correction and vision rejuvenation.
A leading refractive surgeon, Dr. King serves as a clinical investigator for various research studies in refractive surgery. As a clinical investigator, he was the first surgeon in the world to perform laser vision correction surgery using the newest generation of custom wavefront-guided technology in 2010. He was the second surgeon in the world to perform treatments with other new laser vision correction software during another recent clinical study. Dr. King is usually one of the first surgeons to introduce new leading technologies in refractive surgery. Over the past decade, Dr. King was the first surgeon in the Northwestern US and Canada to use the Zyoptix XP microkeratome and the Bausch and Lomb Z-100 laser. He performed the first surgery in Western North America using Zyoptix-TS software with the Bausch and Lomb laser and he performed the first i-LASIK procedure in Alberta using the Intralase and AMO VISX laser with Wavefront-guided technology and Iris registration.
Dr. King has trained many other LASIK surgeons and he has presented at professional meetings of refractive surgeons. Dr. Colin Nelson
Dr. Nelson has volunteered his time and expertise to the Medical Group Missions (Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Africa), St. John Ophthalmic Hospital, Jerusalem and the International Eye Foundation (St. Kitts). He regularly lectures at professional conferences and symposiums and has authored a number of scientific articles.
Dr. Colin Nelson trained in corneal diseases and surgery at the Corneo Plastic Centre in East Grinstead, England and continually retrains in new methods and procedures to remain on top of the latest advancements in technology.
Colin Nelson, MD, has performed more than 12,500 LASIK and PRK procedures. In addition, he had personally developed techniques to improve the outcomes of both procedures that have been adopted throughout this specialized field. Dr. Colin Nelson has published many articles and lectured widely in ophthalmology and is often consulted in difficult cases. Dr. Nelson has been the head surgeon at the Victoria Corneal Laser Centre since 1994. Colin Nelson, MD, has treated numerous colleagues, Victoria Corneal Laser Centre staff and members of his own family with laser vision correction.
