Blurred vision can result from basic imperfections of the eyes focusing system, known as lower order aberrations, and from more complex imperfections, known as higher order aberrations. In the past, doctors have been limited to the diagnosis and treatment of only lower order aberrations.

These include nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Higher order aberrations which result in visual symptoms such as halos, star bursts, and glare also contribute to blurred vision and, until recently, have gone unaddressed. Every eye has a combination of these lower order and higher order aberrations. Your eyes and your vision are as unique to you as your finger prints and no two people are alike. Yet, until recently, two people diagnosed with the same prescription would be treated the same. That is because glasses, contact lenses, and conventional laser surgery address only lower order aberrations. They do not address the higher order aberrations which make each eye unique.
