Dr. Peters is a board certified ophthalmologist and member of the medical honor society with nearly twenty years of clinical, research and surgical experience. In 1985, after completing his medical training with honors, he began his post-graduate medical training at Wilford Hall USAF medical center, in San Antonio, Texas.

Education

From 1986 to 1988, he served in the department of ophthalmology at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine (SAM), an Air Force clinical and research center also located in San Antonio. While at SAM, Dr. Peters worked on numerous studies involving visual systems affecting military aviators, including several early studies on refractive surgical procedures. He also had the unique opportunity to work closely with the research scientist who is now renowned for showing the very first application of the excimer laser on corneal tissue, in 1978. Together, they hold several U.S. and international laser patents. Upon completion of his ophthalmology training at the University of Texas, also in San Antonio, he was assigned to Fairchild AFB, WA where he served as chief of ophthalmology until September of 1995. In early 1996, Dr. Peters founded and served as CEO of LazerVue Incorporated, the company, which brought the first FDA approved VISX Star laser to Washington state. From 1997 to 1999, he continued to gain experience in the field of refractive surgery by participating as a core clinical investigator for the national prospective trial of the LASIK procedure. After FDA approval of LASIK in October of 1999, Dr. Peters returned to Washington state where he established ACXEL Vision Centers, a private practice focusing on refractive surgical procedures. With practices in Spokane, Yakima, Renton, and Bellevue, WA, in addition to Portland, OR, Dr. Peters has now personally performed over 21,000 LASIK and PRK procedures and well over 6,000 other ophthalmic laser and surgical procedures.
